Latest news.....

A new attempt on the record is being organised by:

Yorkshire Coast Morris (Contact Shirley Doyle - email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )

The event will be at the Scarborough Fayre 20th Morris Festival and Yorkshire Coast Morris 30th Birthday to be held on 19-21 June 2009.

We had a great day for the Record attempt - 87 dancers and 10 musicians performed - thanks to everybody who came.

Now we wait to see whether any Side is going to beat us, naturally following the same rules and terms set out by Guinness which can be found on this site.

If a new record is set we will try and beat it at a later Show - perhaps 2008 or 2009.

So we challenge you all to 'have a go' - it really is great fun and was extremely well received by everyone at the Show.

FiddlerMORRIS DANCE RECORD ‘THE LARGEST MORRIS DANCE’ To be attempted at MORETON SHOW on 1st September 2007

An attempt to set a World Record, as recognised by Guinness Records, will be staged at this year’s Moreton Show. Morris Dance sides are invited to apply to participate in the days proceedings which will comprise of an opportunity to enter the Show with a complimentary ticket (gates open at 8am) and to perform at pre-determined dance sites around the show-ground throughout the day.

Dance sides may collect to help defray expenses. The record will be attempted at 1.00pm in the Grand Ring, where dancers will form up into dance sets to perform their own traditional style of the Cotswold Morris dance

The Showground is about 1/4 mile north of the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh where the A.44 Worcester to Oxford Road crosses the A.429 Fosseway. One side of the ground abuts the London - Worcester railway line and the station is two minutes walk away. London is about two hours away; Oxford, Coventry, Warwick, Banbury, Stratford-upon-Avon, Worcester, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Swindon are all within an hour by car. Map...

Latest news about the record attempt

Free Entry & Car Parking

We are planning to supply tickets, together with a car park voucher for a car carrying at least three people, to all dancers.

If you are able to join us could you please let the Administrator (Pam Hathaway) know as soon as possible so that we can organise the numbers of tickets etc needed.

We are also trying to find a suitable camping site to take caravans and camper vans for any side with a distance to travel. We are hoping this will be within easy reach of the showground - and a public house.

Further information will be supplied at a later date

Ticket If you have any queries regarding the above please let Pam know - hopefully she will have answers for you!

We would like to thank him for agreeing to help us with the dance and also the organisation.

The actual record attempt will take place at approx 1pm which will hopefully give sides a chance to travel to Moreton, dance first if wanted etc. and then have time afterwards to dance, take in the show, with time to get away for other events or to travel home.
